    WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea have been the big and controversial spenders in the Premier League over the last two years, with the Blues having spent over £1 billion on players, mostly youngsters, since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's takeover of the club. However, the results haven't followed the cash trail and after going through four different managers in the last two seasons, sense might finally have stricken the leadership as Pochettino has suggested that the club could target more experienced players this summer.

  • WHAT POCHETTINO SAID

Speaking to the media, Pochettino said [via The Standard]: "We can keep going in the same way with the policy [to sign young players].

"But in the squad, we have Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Bettinelli. Maybe Marcus isn’t playing but he does a fantastic job helping the young guys.

"We have experienced players in the squad. It is not going against the project to have some players who are helping the young guys to perform, to be professional, and to understand what it means to be in the Premier League and to be at Chelsea.

"We need to talk and decide the strategy for next season."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Pochettino's comments have suggested that he believes he will be in Boehly's plans past the end of this season, and that is exactly what the Argentine had to say. He revealed that he will remain at the club next season even if the London-based club fails to secure any sort of European qualification. However, whether those are the plans of the ownership will only be showcased at the end of the season.

Speaking to the media, he said [via Chelsea News]: "Will I stay without European football? Of course, because when I arrived here, we already knew that we were not going to compete in Europe. And I said yes to the project and the idea to come here and to build, you know, a squad to be competitive and to try to reach this level. So yes, that is no problem for me."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pochettino's side have struggled throughout the season with a lot of inconsistent performances, hindered by an injury plague that has followed Chelsea's difference-makers like Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. They currently sit in the top half of the Premier League table in ninth place but just two points ahead of 13th-placed Bournemouth.
